The workshop “Stem Cells in Plant Biotechnology - Industrial Use and Scientific Value” will take place April 12, 2006, 2:00 – 3:30 PM, Room Number 402B, as part of the “Food and Agriculture track”. It will provide the latest news in the field of plant stem cell research. Dr. Peter Welters, CEO of Phytowelt GreenTechnologies, made it possible to bring together an international team of renowned experts from industrial and public research.
Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Simon (Heinrich-Heine University Duesseldorf) will focus in the first talk of the session on current basic stem cell research. Dr. Bernward Garthoff (Bayer Crop Science AG, Germany) and Dr. Johan Cardoen (Crop Design N.V., Belgium) will give examples for already successful and future applications in biotechnology.
The emphasis at BIO 2006 Annual International Convention will be the application, science, and regulatory aspects of stem cell research and regenerative medicine.
“It was an important issue for us, to use this topic to draw the communities’ attention also to important progress reached in stem cell research in plant biotechnology. In addition we want to present its useful applications in industry” Peter Welters pointed out his motives for the selection of this subject.

The Annual International Convention BIO2006 will take place from April 9-12 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The largest biotech conference of the world is carried out by the Biotechnology Industry Organization with expected 20.000 attendees and present biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centres and related organizations across the United States and 24 other nations.
