Phytowelt News » Phytowelt nominated for the QUERDENKER Sustainability Award

"Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come" is a quote by Victor Hugo, which can be found on the website of the Society of unconventional thinkers (Querdenker-Club). With more than 300,000 members this is a club, which takes the liberty to leave the beaten track in order to rethink and follow new tracks. Dr Peter Welters from Phytowelt is one of them and his company has therefore been chosen by the Querdenker-Club as one of five finalists in the category "Sustainability".
The concept of sustainability has always been a key motivation for Phytowelt, looking for ways to substitute petrochemical processes with natural biosynthetic pathways from plant sources. Basic approaches include the optimisation of renewable raw materials, increased utilisation of plant enzymes and the exploitation of plant residues, as they accumulate in huge amounts from gardens, public places and in agriculture, ready to be used and selectively processed in bio refineries. In this context new word creations emerged like "phytomining" and "plantdustrial", showing the creative approach to new concepts mirrored even in the language: the merging of the whole potential in plants into the central theme of our industrial society, efficiency of productivity.
Peter Welters believes in this development and his approach has been rewarded with various achievements and awards. Major collaborations have been established with Northwest German Forest Institue (NW-FVA), Thünen-Institute (BMELV/FNR-project Breeding of new fastgrowing energy-poplars for Germany) and the Frauenhofer Institute UMSICHT in Oberhausen, Germany. Altogether, Phytowelt collaborates with around 50 academic and industrial cooperation partners in running projects. These strong partners enable Phytowelt to implement the out-of-the-box-thinking approach fast, efficiently and successfully.
For a cross-sectional technology such as biotechnology we need successful and innovative lateral thinker!
